My hips don’t lie

When I was a kid, I loved making my dolls dresses and fancy skirts, furniture, houses, etc, etc. Doll’s clothes were extremely expensive for someone without an allowance (and a bit hard to find in a small-town-third-world-country setting) so there wasn’t much of a choice. Well, not that I was complaining about having to sew them, it was fun!
20 years later…after gaining a little weight (I’m not complaining; for about a decade my weight didn’t fluctuate much) my skirts didn’t fit any more…so I went on this crazy search for the perfect skirt.
The search first lead me to a Center City retailer, where I bought myself a nice tweed skirt. Unfortunately, said skirt was only used twice because it kept on riding up if I wasn’t standing up straight. Being “average” I sometimes fit and sometimes don’t in the stuff they sell…it all depends on how the designer views women: If it is “naturally curvy”, I’ll fit on it. If she’s flat as a boy -er board- then I don’t.That made me think “why not make my own”?
Well, that’s a bit difficult if you don’t have a sewing machine, right? Mom’s machine is on the other side of the continent…that means I needed to get my own! I went and got one (a Brother LS-2125, pictured above, by Boombadeus); and, I have been one happy seamstress ever since!
