Lotus bag

February has been a busy birthday celebration month. It might be the shortest month of the year, but we’ve already celebrated two friend’s birthday and there is another celebration this weekend.
Days before R’s birthday, I was looking at PurlBee’s sewing project section trying to find more ideas of what to do with some fat quarters from other projects (…okay, maybe I was also making a purchase
you might never know! Oh, wait, I think you might). While looking I found this Chinese New Year Good Luck bag.
It suddenly hit me. R likes yoga. Yoga not only has a position called “lotus “, but lotus flowers (the main pattern of PurlBee shows a lotus flower) represent purity; as the blossom grows and opens after rising from the dark waters (i’ve also read that it represents life, and the struggle to attain purity)…so, why not make one for her?
Since I really love making lined drawstring bags, and use them as “gift wrapping”, I got started right way and brought out the sewing machine. I cut two rectangles of a red fabric (a burgundy red with a hint of stripes that i liked) and embroidered a lotus flower design onto what would be the “front” of the bag . Once that was done, I folded the edges and sew them in place; to make room for the ribbon ties and then attached the lining.
After that, the two, still separate pieces, were sewn together and the ribbon attached.
I liked the end product so much that, two days later, I made another one, very similar to it, for myself…what do you think?
…the only thing that I regret of the whole experience is not having come up with anything embroidery wise for Scottycakes! Oh, well…i have a whole year to think of something…
